The Iowa State University Book Store is seeking candidates for a Buyer in the TechCyte Division. This position will oversee product procurement and inventory management for TechCyte â including product categories of computers, accessories, software, and other retail technology.Â The Buyer will provide excellent customer service and will make quick decisions on how to handle customer issues and adjust merchandise during high intensity sales periods.
Primary duties include managing the ordering and inventory of the TechCyte Division, including the Apple Authorized Campus Store and Dell Experience Station; negotiating with vendors on prices, discounts, product quality, services, terms and delivery; evaluating product offerings and analyzing calculated financial risk as it pertains to pricing, inventory turns, margins, gross margin return on investment (GMROI); compile and maintain data to generate reports for product category, vendor and item performance, and sales analysis; working within the parameters of an established open-to-buy plan and manage sales goals as set by management; conduct and reconcile physical inventory for assigned product categories; research and provide quotes to customers for large quantities, custom orders, and/or unique items; working with Iowa State University departments to coordinate internal technology purchases; assist with product training to staff; hire, train, and supervise student buyer; collaborate and contribute on promotions, marketing, and events; communicate with faculty, staff, and/or vendors on regular basis regarding product deadlines, availability, and orders/requests; Attend and present at industry meetings, trade shows, and training sessions to keep current on industry issues and trends, college bookstore networking, and system updates in order to benchmark performance and services and to discover new ways of dealing with retail business.
The successful candidate will have the ability to form positive working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and external customers and establish professional campus and community relationships through effective communication and outreach; strong problem solving capabilities along with the ability to work independently as well as with a team; demonstrate effective written and oral communication skills; strong negotiation skills; excellent organizational and multitasking skills to handle a variety of duties simultaneously.Â The successful candidate must embrace appropriate technology tools to accomplish job functions including strong knowledge of PC and/or MAC hardware and software; computer skills in Microsoft Office and inventory management software.
The Iowa State University Book Store is open 7 days a week, therefore duties of this position require the ability to work nights and weekends as Supervisor on Duty as well as occasional overnight travel.Â
