Course Materials Buyer

Cedarville University is seeking to hire a Course Materials Buyer to coordinate all electronic and print textbook activities including acquiring adoptions, purchasing, pricing, stocking, selling and returns. This position is responsible for the management of all course material functions. This is a full-time, twelve month, non-exempt position that reports to the Bookstore Manager. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: - Manages all course materials inventory including initial ordering, timely returns and credit requests, and yearly inventory counts.
- Communicates and collaborates with campus faculty on collection of adoptions in a timely manner.
- Keeps apprised of industry standards and changes. Communicates areas of change that may affect course materials adoptions, costs, or sales to manager, campus administration and faculty.
- Evaluates course materials purchase requirements based on history, enrollment, cost and other key factors. Works with wholesalers, publishers and alternative sources to acquire materials at the best cost.
- Creates and processes purchase orders for course materials purchases.
- Oversees shipments of course materials including verifying contents, pricing books in course materials software, and insuring that books are shelved appropriately.
- Utilizes a market-driven pricing model with overall margin goals to price course materials appropriately and affordably.
- Manages temporary help to ensure that online orders are filled, shipped, and appropriately charged in a timely manner.
- Works closely with the Course Materials/Office Assistant to insure timely payment of invoices.
- Manages vendor relationships and software related to course materials.
- Provides assistance to students with acquisitions and purchases of course materials.
- Manages all aspects of course materials rentals.
- Shares opening/closing and special store hours responsibilities with other buyers including occasional extended or weekend hours.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: - High levels of data management and computer skills, particularly in database management. Past experience with a point-of-sale and inventory management system a plus.
- General understanding of basic accounting functions for oversight of course materials budget.
- Demonstrated ability to deal intelligently, tactfully and effectively with faculty, customers and fellow staff members.
- Intentional interaction with colleagues in the industry and professional organizations to keep up with latest trends in the course materials industry.
- A strong desire to provide and promote excellent customer service.
- Demonstrated ability to train others effectively and direct tasks.
- Proven organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and work well under pressure.
- Some college background preferred.
